Sodium Hyaluronate: What It’s Used For
Knee pain relief for osteoarthritis (OA): This injection helps ease pain in people dealing with OA of the knee, especially when the joints have become stiff and worn down.
Support during eye surgery: Surgeons also utilize it when placing an artificial lens into the eye and during cataract surgeries. During the procedure, it helps in preserving and protecting the frontal part of the eye.
Sodium Hyaluronate & Sodium Chloride Injection Injection is administered by the intra-articular route. A treatment cycle consists of five injections given at weekly intervals. Some patients may experience benefit with three injections given at weekly intervals. This has been noted in studies reported in the literature in which patients treated with three injections were followed for 60 days
Side Effects of Sodium Hyaluronate Injection Used in Eye Surgery:
Generally well-tolerated: When injected into the eye during surgery, sodium hyaluronate is usually safe and doesn’t cause major issues.
Temporary pressure increase: Some people may notice a short-term rise in eye pressure, which is fairly common with similar eye treatments.
Possible side effects in the eye include corneal swelling, corneal damage, or inflammation such as hypopyon (pus at the front of the eye) or iritis (inflammation of the iris).

It is recommended that the patient avoid any strenuous activities like weight-bearing activities, jogging, or playing tennis within 48 hours following the intra-articular injection.
