How it works?

Uses of Nifedipine 20 mg Tablet

Nifedipine is primarily used to treat several cardiovascular and vascular conditions due to its potent calcium channel blocking properties. In hypertension, it works by relaxing blood vessels and reducing peripheral resistance, which helps lower blood pressure and prevent complications such as stroke, heart attack, and kidney damage.

Precautions of Nifedipine 20 mg Tablet

Important Precautions for Nifedipine Tablets 20 mg

Not a Beta-Blocker

  • Nifedipine is not a beta-blocker.
  • If you’re stopping a beta-blocker, don’t stop suddenly. Reduce the dose slowly over 8–10 days to avoid serious side effects.
  • Nifedipine won’t protect you from problems caused by stopping other blood pressure medicines suddenly.

Taking with Other Medicines

  • You can take nifedipine with other blood pressure medicines, including beta-blockers.
  • But be careful: combining them may cause dizziness or fainting when standing up (called postural hypotension).
  • Nifedipine won’t stop the “rebound” effect (rise in blood pressure) that can happen after stopping other medicines.

Heart & Blood Pressure Risks

Use nifedipine carefully if you have:

  • Very low blood pressure (systolic pressure below 90 mmHg)
  • Heart failure
  • Severe narrowing of heart valves (aortic stenosis)
  • Weak heart function (poor cardiac reserve)

Sometimes, nifedipine can make heart failure worse.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

  • Pregnancy: Only use nifedipine if absolutely needed, such as in severe high blood pressure that doesn’t respond to other treatments.
  • Breastfeeding: Not recommended. Nifedipine can pass into breast milk, and its effects on babies are unknown.
  • If used with IV magnesium sulfate during pregnancy, blood pressure may drop too much—this can harm both mother and baby. Close monitoring is needed.

Diabetes

  • If you have diabetes, nifedipine may affect your blood sugar control. Your doctor may need to adjust your treatment.

Liver & Kidney Health

  • If you have liver problems, your doctor may lower your dose and monitor you closely.
  • In dialysis patients with high blood pressure and low fluid levels, nifedipine may cause a sharp drop in blood pressure.

Drug Interactions

Some medicines can increase the amount of nifedipine in your body. This may cause your blood pressure to drop too much. Tell your doctor if you take:

Type of Medicine Examples
Antibiotics Erythromycin
Antifungals Ketoconazole
HIV Medicines Ritonavir
Antidepressants Fluoxetine, Nefazodone
Others Valproic acid, cimetidine, and Quinupristin/Dalfopristin

Your doctor may need to adjust your dose or monitor your blood pressure more closely.

Lactose Warning

  • Nifedipine contains lactose.
  • Do not take it if you have:
    • Galactose intolerance.
    • Lapp lactase deficiency.
    • Glucose-galactose malabsorption.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions are useful tools, they open lines of communication; give us information; improve interactions, facilitate analysis, and many more.

A pharma CMO is a special kind of an organization, offering contract manufacturing services to pharmaceutical companies for various kinds of drug formulations.

Reduce overall costs and time to market :
Contract manufacturers already have the needed infrastructure and technical staff, so working with a CMO or CDMO can decrease the cost of manufacturing your pharmaceutical products.

Scalability and flexible production capacity :
You can produce what you need when you need it without worrying about excess capacity. Additionally, CMOs understand the importance of quality and compliance, so you don't have to sacrifice safety for scalability.

Save on upgrading and maintaining equipment :
If you have your manufacturing facility, you’ll have to pay to upgrade your equipment as technology advances—which can get expensive. A CMO/CDMO’s only function is to make and distribute products, so part of their core business responsibility is to update their equipment whenever needed and perform maintenance.

Ease supply chain issues :
During the pandemic, there were several instances of supply chain issues, including medicine shortages. CMOs are generally better equipped than startups to handle a supply chain crisis.

Bandwidth to focus on core competencies
When your company resources aren’t directly allocated to manufacturing and distribution, you have more time to focus on other tasks, like marketing your new drug, researching, or working on drug discovery.

We have 7+ manufacturing sites with a minimum of WHO GMP certification and other country-specific approvals like NAFDAC approved, PPK Kenya Approved, TFDA Tanzania Approved, EU-GMP Approved.
