Risk of Encephalopathy

- Risk is higher in overdose or renal impairment.
Severe Skin Reactions
- Serious reactions such as toxic epidermal necrolysis, Stevens‑Johnson syndrome, and DRESS have been reported.
- If these occur, stop cefixime immediately and seek medical care.
Hypersensitivity
- Use with caution in patients with a history of drug allergies.
- Severe reactions (including anaphylaxis) may occur.

Cross‑Allergenicity with Penicillins

Recommended Dosage and Administration for Cefixime 400 mg Tablet
Adults & Adolescents (12 years and above)
- Recommended dose: 400 mg daily
- Can be taken as a single 400 mg dose or 2 × 200 mg doses per day
- Usual treatment duration: 7 days, extendable up to 14 days if required
Elderly Patients
- Same dosage as adults is generally suitable
- Renal function should be assessed before prescribing
- Dosage adjustment is necessary in cases of severe renal impairment
Side effects of Cefixime Tablet 400 mg
Diarrhea has been more commonly associated with higher doses. Some cases of moderate to severe diarrhea have been reported; this has occasionally warranted cessation of therapy. Cefixime should be discontinued if marked diarrhea occurs.
