Uses of Acetaminophen Suppository
Acetaminophen Suppository (also known as paracetamol) helps your body:
- Relieve pain by raising your pain threshold
- Reduce fever by acting on the brain’s temperature control center
- Provide gentle relief without causing stomach irritation
Precautions of Acetaminophen Suppository
Important Safety Information
Do Not Mix With Other Pain Medicines
- Don’t use this product with other medications that contain acetaminophen. It can lead to overdose.
Use With Caution in Certain Health Conditions
- Be careful if you have kidney or liver problems.
- People with non-cirrhotic liver disease are at higher risk of liver damage.
Overdose Warning
- Taking more than the recommended dose can cause serious liver damage.
- If liver damage is suspected, your doctor may order liver function tests.
Keep Out of Reach
- Store safely. Children should not have access to this medicine.
Rare But Serious Condition: HAGMA
Some very sick patients may develop a rare condition called pyroglutamic acidosis, which affects the body’s acid balance.
This may happen in people who:
- Have severe kidney problems or sepsis
- Are malnourished or have chronic alcoholism.
- Are treated with acetaminophen for a long time or with acetaminophen + flucloxacillin.
If this condition is suspected:
- Stop acetaminophen immediately.
- Monitor the patient closely.
- A special urine test (5-oxoproline) may help confirm the diagnosis.

Dosage for Children
The dose depends on your child’s age and weight:

| 10 to 12 years | 30–40 kg | 1 to 2 suppositories |
How to Use
- For rectal use only (insert into the bottom).
- You can give a dose up to 4 times in 24 hours.
- Wait at least 4 hours between doses.
- Do not give more than the recommended dose.
- Do not use for more than 3 days unless your doctor says it’s okay.
- Use whole suppositories only—do not break them before use.

Most people use this medicine without any problems. But in rare cases, some side effects may happen:
Stomach and Rectal Issues
- Common: Redness or irritation around the rectal area
Allergic Reactions
- Rare: Skin rash, itching, swelling (especially of the face or throat)
- Very rare: Serious skin reactions
Liver Problems
- Rare: Liver damage
- Overdose warning: Taking too much can cause severe liver injury
Blood Changes
- Rare reports: Low platelet count or other blood disorders
- These may not be directly caused by acetaminophen
